Kansas City Hydration Therapy: Frequently Asked Questions
Who administers the IV fluids and medications?
Fully licensed and accredited physicians, paramedics, and nurses administer all of our treatments. Our physicians have over 30 years combined experience in prestigious trauma accredited hospitals and community hospitals. Our paramedics and nurses have over 25 years combined experience in ambulance, hospital and trauma services.
How long does the IV and medications take?
Most patients receive the treatment in 30 minutes to 1 hour.
How do IV fluids work?
IV fluids contain electrolytes. The infusion replenishes fluids and electrolytes directly into the bloodstream. It bypasses the oral, gastrointestinal tract and allows for more rapid absorption.
Who can receive the treatment?
We treat adults only, meaning no patients below the age of 18. If pregnant we prefer you defer treatment to your obstetrician. We will treat breastfeeding women after consultation and review of your medical history.
What is in the IV?
The IV fluid itself is normal saline. Additional electrolytes and/or vitamins may be added if our medical professional feels it is appropriate for your treatment. Those additional additives might include, Vitamin B complex, Magnesium Sulfate, or Calcium.
What are the side effects?
As with any treatment, side effects can occur. Side effects are usually minor, including but not limited to: bruising, bleeding, and soreness at the site the IV was placed. It is uncommon to develop infection at the site, but it can occur. Side effects of the medications, vitamins and minerals are rare but may include, but not limited to: flushing, itching, rash, allergic reaction, anxiety, and anaphylaxis. Our medical professionals are trained in recognizing and treating any potential side effects.
